NewsNo news posted About Griffin...Griffin Elementary is located in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. The school was built in the 1880’s and has been a central point of the community. Griffin was named after Dr. John S. (Strother) Griffin a native of Virginia -- he went to school at University of PA, then joined US Army as surgeon and came to California in 1846. In 1863, he purchased 2,000 acres of ranch land for $1,000 and in 1870, Griffin and his nephew, Hancock Johnston, built homes there.
